9/11 Net Info

This site is still under construction, but I wanted to get some information out so you can begin using the system. Please email me with any questions.

Bill - KB3GUN

We are EchoLink Node # 23115
and located in Somerset County, PA.
We operate over the WR3AJL Repeater on 146.625- with a PL of 123Hz.

Listen to ‘Amateur Radio Newsline’ every Wednesday evening at 7PM EST on the WR3AJL Repeater. Sponsored by the KB3GUN Link and the Allegheny Highlands Repeater Association.

EchoLink Nodes

What is a node?

A node is an assigned number used to identify an EchoLink station. The KB3GUN-L is node # 23115.

Visit http://home.insightbb.com/~n9yty/ to see a list of stations currently online. It’s broken down by Conferences, Repeaters, Links then (PC) Users.

To connect to one of these stations, all you need is their Node#.

Conferences (*call or description*) are like large nets. You may have heard us linking into the N2LEN Tech Net on Thursday nights at 9PM. We connect into the *N2LEN* conference server. There can be up to 100 repeaters/links connected to a popular conference server. The etiquit is that each connected station has a ‘Local Net Control’. If you hear an EchoLink net on 146.625-, wait until you get called by the local controller before talking. We’ll ID before connecting into the net. If you transmit during a net, wait 3-4 seconds after the link drops before keying, then key down for 3-4 seconds before talking. This gives the repeaters on the net a chance to drop.

Repeaters (-R) and Links (-L) are very similar. There is much discussion on what the -L’s and -R’s mean. A “-L”, (like the KB3GUN-L) can mean eiher it’s on a simplex frequency or it’s linked to a repeater. A “-R” can mean they are hardwired into a repeater controller or they transmit over a repeater frequency. So, to confuse you, a “-L” is either on simplex or a repeater and a “-R” is on a repeater.

Users are connected to the internet from their PC. They have no rf gateway into the system. Users are identified by a call sign without a trailing “-L” or “-R”. As a user, one still must use amateur practices (ID every 10 minutes, etc.) as there may be someone linking to an RF node somewhere in the system.

Here are a few node numbers to help get you started:
