Day 1

Just taking it all in. Trying to work out my plan of attack.

1/07/2008:
At the moment, everything is soaked in PB Blaster. I will hit it a few more times before I start the tear down.

Photos of the new to me '66:
Please note: Many of these photos are for my reference for when it's time to re-install everything.

Here it is in all its 42 year old glory. I can’t wait to start working on it. The photos don’t do it justice. Looks much better in person.

Waiting to be reborn...

66fj40004

While it’s far from rust free, overall it has a great base. Frame is clean and solid. The tub and right fender need some work, but overall, looks like everything will work out all right.

Seats are comfortable and very solid.

66fj40009

Took off the fixed tailgate. Will replace it with the split gate supplied with the vehicle. Will need to find a tire carrier.

66fj40010

Bed has been plated over. Will see what kind of work it will take once I remove it.

66fj40011

Speaks for itself doesn’t it...

66fj40013

Doors and cab area look great and will take very little work. Sill debating whether to replace the OEM with a custom gage cluster.

Nice huh? Looks like everything is new.

66fj40032

Need to pick up some steel and a brake. Simple enough to weld in a new piece.

66fj40033

CCOT has fender skins for about $140 each. May be the easiest option. I’ll try fabbing it myself first as I need the practice anyway.

66fj40043

Here it sits waiting to get gutted, prepped and fitted with a 2F.

66fj40055

First couple of shots were rough, but it’s going down smoother now... Love this stuff.

66fj40068

Original (right) and replacement (left in primer) split gates.

66fj40073

Proffitt’s Spring Over kit.

Tools. I have what I need, but always want more...
