Tub Work

3/17/2008:

Today I got the remainder of the body mount bolts out. I had to cut a couple due to the tub mounts being crushed and/or deformed. Not a problem though.

As you can see, I had to lay it on its’ side. I don’t have quite enough headroom to stand it up, and since I took delivery of the 2F, axles and transmission, floor space it to limited to lay it flat. It will actually be easier to work on it from this angle for now.

As you can see, I have some work ahead of me. Nothing unexpected though. I’ll be fabbing and replacing all the cab support rails and removing the rear floor. PO welded a new floor in, on top of the old. I’ll just cut of the old and weld the supports to the newer floor. I’ll finally have a chance to play with the welder.

Once I get started cutting, I’ll add more photos.

April 1 thru May 16, 2008:

I fabbed up new tub support crossmembers and body mounts. I also made new sub-floor panels.

I re-enforced the tub with 3/16” angle iron all around the outer tub floor. Reason being is that I need connection points to hold the BudBuilt 3/16” quarter-panels that I’ll be adding. I also cut the lip off the rear sill. I added 2” x 2” x 3/16” square tubing as a new sill. I’ll have 2” square tubing extending into the wheel well and up to the interior once I get done.

Good enough for government work.

This photo shows the 2” square tubing used as a rear sill. You can also see that I built a tub frame so I can move it around the garage.

Time to get working on the inside. Should have it done before the BudBuilt quarter panels arrive. That is, if the repair parts I ordered for my air compressor get here.

The bedliner in the tub is a pain to get out. Once the interior is done, it’s going to LineX for a professional job. There won’t be any carpet in this rig.

Stay tuned!
